Our city is growing and changing. Part of that growth includes infill housing. When homes in mature neighbourhoods start to get run down or have not been maintained at all, sometimes it's best to just put up something new and vibrant in their place. This helps to keep our mature communities thriving and brings new life to these beautiful neighbourhoods!
The City of Edmonton has started it's "Everyone's Edmonton" campaign. This campaign is designed to give information regarding infill housing and to promote best construction practices where infill is involved. Point of View Media is proud to have been chosen by The City Of Edmonton to produce a series of videos to help with this campaign. Actually, it's technically two separate video series! The first series focuses on "Infill Stories". These are stories of people living in, building, or living near infill houses in mature communities. This series consists of 6 videos in total and was a lot of fun to produce. Here is a brief run down of the videos in the "Infill Stories" series, taken from The City of Edmonton infill website (video links are below): RESIDENTIAL INFILL - OLIVER Meet Kunal, a young professional taking advantage of low maintenance living in an Oliver condo. Explore how his modern housing choice allows him to balance his professional and social commitments. RESIDENTIAL INFILL - JASPER AVENUE Explore how Pat and Jim's modern high-rise apartment in downtown Edmonton compares to other styles of housing they have experienced. RESIDENTIAL INFILL - INGLEWOOD Learn about Kirk and Ryan's experience in a community impacted by a housing revival, growing families and new homes. RESIDENTIAL INFILL - GARDEN SUITE Discover how Carillon found a unique home to fit her changing needs, in one of Edmonton’s most popular neighbourhoods. RESIDENTIAL INFILL - WESTMOUNT Meet Danielle and Taylor, long-time residents of Edmonton’s Westmount neighbourhood. Discover how they’re overcoming a housing cost barrier to move their family to a home with the features they need, in the neighbourhood they love. RESIDENTIAL INFILL - UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA GRADUATE RESIDENCE Learn how the University of Alberta worked with neighbours to add housing for 234 new residents in one of Edmonton's oldest and closest neighbourhoods.
The second video series focuses on builders of infill. The intent of this series is to give infill builders all the information they need to properly build infill homes.
Here is a brief run down of the videos in the "Infill Builders" series, taken from The City of Edmonton infill website (video links are below): KEEPING SITES CLEAN Learn how experienced local builders keep their construction sites clean and safe to minimize impacts to neighbours. PERMITS AND SIGNAGE Hear how experienced local builders prepare their permit applications ahead of time to easily navigate the City of Edmonton’s permit process. SPACE MANAGEMENT Learn how experienced local builders work within the small spaces available to build amazing new infill homes while minimizing impacts to neighbours. WORKING WITH NEIGHBOURS Explore how a focus on communication with neighbours has improved the construction process for local builders.
There are also two more videos for this series that are still in production. They are:
DEMOLITION AND EXCAVATION TREE PROTECTION We are hoping to have production completed on these in the coming weeks. All of these videos, can be found on The City of Edmonton's infill website (Scroll down to "Infill Stories" and "Builders Video Series). This has been a very informative and fun series to produce. And, we are very happy to announce that The City of Edmonton has signed us on to produce a minimum of six more videos to promote infill housing in our great city! Stay tuned for those over the next few weeks! - Mark
